I'm finally going to China!
I'm leaving for China shortly. I can't wait to see my daughter's beautiful country, and then meet her for the first time. I hope to be able to update the blog while I'm there. China here I come!

Referral call and photos received!
My agency called me with the good news this morning! I had to wait a couple of hours to get the photo through email. With the phone call she was described to me this way: a little hair, but not much, chubby cheeks, gorgeous, with an inquisitive look on her face. So I spent a couple hours trying to conjure up the image in my mind from that description! When I saw the photos I could not believe how beautiful she is. She looks healthy, smart and well cared for. I can't wait to meet her!

Could It Be Tomorrow??!!
Didn't get the referral in October like I wanted but the cool thing about this month is that there should be no doubt that I'm in! No matter how small the batch from CCAA, it should include my LID of Dec. 5th '05. According to Rumor Queen there is a package on it's way from CCAA to an agency, which could be referrals. So tomorrow we hopefully will hear about other agencies hearing about packages on the way. Of course a package from the CCAA could be something other than referrals, but it is about time for them to be coming so..... I think I may get my referral this week!! It could be tomorrow. I called my agency today and was told that they are hoping to see them this week. They said there are 8 families in my travel group, and that they will get us to China as soon as they can after referrals arrive.
Today I made my appointment to get the 2nd installment of my Hepatitus A vaccine and also a flu shot. China here I come!

Getting Close
I haven't updated my blog for ages. There hasn't been much action in my adoption process to report for a while. I've been concentrating on work and other things while this wait just goes on and on ... and on. But I may be getting some very good news soon!!! I am hoping to receive my referral very soon, possibly within the next week. China (the CCAA) sends referrals once a month, and they are due to arrive soon. Every time referrals are received by waiting families, that reduces the number of people who are "in line" in front of me. The CCAA has matched babies with families logged in through Nov. 25th of 2005. I was logged in December 5th of 2005 .... so.... if they can cover those 10 days with the next batch I'm in!! Now, if you look at the calendar for 2005, four of those ten days were weekend days, so they really would only have to get through six BUSINESS days which I'm hoping will make a big difference in how much ground is covered. On the cautious side ...... last month the CCAA only covered three business days. But some months more time is covered. A lot of people who watch this stuff, and others with the same log-in date, feel like Dec. 5th. could be included. SO ...... I'm on pins and needles here waiting for word, checking for updates on the Rumor Queen website and the CCAA site about every 20 minutes!!!! Since my referral is getting so close, a friend [Hi, you know who you are :)]asked me for my blog address so I thought "oh, I guess I need to update that!!!", so here I am. I hope to post really good news soon!

More of the Same
More of the same - waiting that is. I've been extremely busy this month, which is probably a good thing. The waiting and not knowing how much longer it will be is hard. I've had very little down time the past month so I haven't had any free time on my hands for moping. Referrals are expected for some other people any day now, and rumor has it the CCAA may get through Nov. 7, 2005, so we're still moving along at a snail's pace.

Renewed I171-H has arrived - now more waiting
My new I171-H has arrived, meaning I have been approved by CIS for 18 more months. I'm happy to have it! Now I get to wait some more. The CCAA only sent two LID days worth of referrals last month so things are moving very slowly - still lots of people ahead of me in line. I'm trying to stay optimistic though and hoping for a late summer referral.

Expired paperwork has to be re-done.
I have sent in a new I600A form, which is the "Application for Advance Processing of Orphan Petition". The result of this will be the I171H which is the approval notice from Immigration that everyone has to receive before adopting from outside the U.S. My first I600A was sent in back in June of '05, which resulted in the I171H that I received in October of '05. So I've already done this once, but the approval from CIS only last for 18 months so my approval runs out in April '07, next month. They want to make sure you are still parent material since 18 months have passed. Makes sense I guess but what a pain in the pocketbook! Along with filing a new application, paying another fee to CIS (it wasn't a small amount), they also require new fingerprints be taken (more $, and what would change about your fingerprints?), since last time, and a homestudy update. Homestudy was updated last July when it expired after 12 months, and fingerprints re-done in Dec. when they expired after 15 months. So I'm good to go, or will be when my new I171H arrives. Can't wait to get it!

Vaccines for Travel
After considering the pros and cons of getting vaccines before traveling to China, I decided to get the Hep A vaccine yesterday. This vaccine is recommend (although not required) by the CDC for Americans traveling to China. A friend had a bad reaction to the vaccine so I was reluctant, but decided to be on the safe side. I've had no bad reaction, I think that's pretty rare. I'll need to go back for a second dose in 6 months, although hopefully I will have traveled and be back home at that time. Even if I'm back home safe and sound, I'll go ahead and get the second dose since I've started it. The Hep A virus is introduced through the GI tract, so travelers can be exposed through contaminated food or water, or from another person who is infected with the virus. The nurse giving me the vaccine said that a person can pick up the Hep A virus and not even be aware of having it, but you can be a carrier and pass it on unknowingly. I'm recommending that my four travel mates also receive the vaccine, but that's a personal decision. I almost didn't have it myself. While I was there yesterday I went ahead and got the flu shot, although it's late in the season. May as well get all the coverage I can and I recommend the flu shot for my group as well. I received the Hep B vaccines years ago so I'm covered on that, but my travel mates should look into it and make a decision about that one also.
